The Weeknd signs deal with a major label

By on September 13, 2012

[DS]: The Weeknd has signed a new record deal.

The singer-songwriter has previously distributed his music through free mixtapes without the backing of a major label, despite working on tracks with Drake and selling out gigs.

However, the star’s XO initiative has inked a deal with Universal Music Group’s Republic Records and will release a new album titled Trilogy on November 13, reports Billboard.

The collection will feature mixed and mastered editions of The Weeknd’s previous three mixtapes -House of BalloonsThursday and Echoes Of Silence - which were released in 2011.

Trilogy will also feature a couple of new tracks and be available in both digital and physical formats.

The set’s lead single has been confirmed as ‘Wicked Games’, which is lifted from The Weeknd’s first mixtape House of Balloons and will be available on iTunes soon.
