Muse confirmed for Olympics closing ceremony

By on August 8, 2012

[DS]: Muse have confirmed they will perform at the 2012 London Olympics closing ceremony.

Drummer Dom Howard told NME that Muse will play ’Survival’, which the band specifically wrote for the London Summer Olympic Games.

“I’m happy with the song. It’s a proper Muse song. It’s not something we did for the Olympics,” Howard revealed.

He further explained: “They sowed a seed by asking us to do some music but then five months went by. We showed them a few songs when they asked us about [playing the] closing ceremony and they loved it.

“It represented the enormous competition of what the Olympics is.”

Muse’s Matt Bellamy recently disclosed that the group nearly recorded a duet with Elton John for the Olympics, but the track was ultimately abandoned.

George Michael and Ed Sheeran have both announced that they will appear in Sunday’s closing ceremony, with Take That, The Who, Liam Gallagher and the Spice Girls rumoured to take part as well.
