The Maccabees hack Kinect cameras for 3D music video

By on July 20, 2012

[DS]: The use of the custom Kinect rig and software will allow directors Jamie Roberts and Will Hanke to create a fully 3D model of the performance.

The 15-minute set will be filmed at a secret warehouse location in Bow, East London in front of 50 fans.

The data collected of the fans and of the band will be used to create abstract animated sequences for the film, titled ‘The Maccabees (In The Dark)’.

Speaking about the shoot, The Maccabees lead singer Orlando Weeks said: “It was a pleasure working with VEVO, creating what will hopefully prove to be a really innovative and enjoyable live recording.”

VEVO content and programming director Tom Connaughton also expressed his excitement, describing the project as an innovative concept that has been “never attempted before”.

Microsoft’s Kinect sensor has previously been used to construct twin satellites that can dock together in mid-orbit.

We're having some issues with our host
