Federer Wins Wimbledon
Rodger Federer won a record seventh Wimbledon championship after beating Andy Murray in four sets on Centre Court in a thrilling final.
Andy Murray who was playing in his first Wimbledon final, started brightly, winning the first set. However, Federer came out the blocks flying in the second set to even the match. The third set began with both players winning a game each before play was interrupted by the rain.
After a short break, the roof came up to create the first ever indoor Wimbledon final. Federer went on to win the third set despite incredible vocal support from the crowd.
Federer continued to play some superb tennis despite Murray’s best efforts to stay in the match however 30-year-old Federer disappointed the Wimbledon crowd by equalling Pete Sampras’ record of seven Wimbledon titles with the match finishing 4-6 7-5 6-3 6-4.
After the match, Murray was clearly emotional, with Murray in tear as he addressed the crowd and revealing a side to the public that had not being seen before. Federer was gracious in defeat, claiming that Murray would win at least one grand slam.
The victory means Federer wins his first grand slam in two and a half years and takes him back to number one in the world rankings.
