Joey Barton Loses QPR Captaincy

By on June 25, 2012

Controversial midfielder QPR was in the news again today as he was punished further for his red card on the final match of last season. The former Manchester City and Newcastle midfielder was sent off against his former side City after clashing with Carlos Tevez, kneeing Sergio Aguero and trying to head-butt Vincent Kompany and subsequently received a twelve match ban for his actions but today he was stripped of the club captaincy and fined six weeks wages.

On his twitter account where he has over 1 million followers, the 29-year-old tweeted, “I was reckless and deserved every punishment I received. Money comes and goes, it’s not important to me. Losing the captaincy and missing 12 games, is what really hurts. I was stupid and that what happens when u do dumb things. I am confident ill bounce back. Cannot wait.”

QPR have reached an agreement with the player that should he seriously breach the clubs’ disciplinary procedures again, they have the right to terminate his contract.
